Off the Beaten Path - A Memorial Day Reflection

During the Easter season we pause to remember that Christ paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure our eternal freedom. On Memorial Day we pause to reflect on the ultimate sacrifice of those who reported to duty to secure our political freedom. Just think for a moment, if others hadn’t paid the ultimate sacrifice to secure our freedom, we wouldn’t be free…free to assemble, free to corporately worship, or free to openly proclaim that Christ is the risen Lord. Our brothers and sisters in China, Saudi Arabia, Iran, and North Korea suffer (sometimes brutally suffer) because they are not guaranteed the same political freedoms. This Monday, may we give thanks to God for those who believed, to the point of death, that the idea of freedom was worth their very lives.
